The history of Breathing Theory began in late 2003, in small town North Carolina with vocalist/former guitarist Cory Britt setting the band into motion, writting guitar, music and lyrics at home, constructing ideas. Along the way, Britt teamed up with best friend Weston Waters on drums, instantly the two began composing music together, but still without a bassist. Long time friend TJ Guthrie was approached and asked to join up as bassist, making the 3 piece official. The music then taking on a full sound. With time passing, and differences bubbling to the surface, the band lay dormant awaiting it's time and it's place. The band eventually parted ways with Guthrie, all the while Britt's home and family life causing such dysfunction and discontent. Britt decided to leave his home in NC for Florida, furthering the delay of the band. Late in 2004, with Britt in Florida and eagerly trying to put the pieces back together, he stumbles upon current bassist Seth Messer. The two quickly begin writting, and playing small shows, anything to breathe life into the music. Early 2005, Britt finally touches base with Waters once again. Waters soon makes it down to FL to join up with Britt & Messer. The three begin writting, producing and laying down tracks for all songs previously written the past year before, showing them a taste of the band's potential awaiting.
In mid 2005, the band a solid three piece again, Britt, Waters and Messer finish up what would be the first demo. Soon after months of continuous writing, the three head to NC to start recording new material once again, along the way picking up then 2nd guitarist Zac Simineau to help with the recording. The band would soon take a negative turn with Simineau leaving. With the band back to a 3-piece again they finish up the recording process and 2nd demo cd in 2006/2007 with Dreamtone Studios. Mid 2007, after months of intense recording and issues boiling at the surface, Britt, Waters & Messer decide to return back to their homes, taking time off. In mid 2008, Waters stepped away from the band due to personal reasons and to pursue other musical interests, while Britt and Messer, back together in FL, added Kevin Stricker to the line up on drums and began writing new material and playing local shows around central FL.
In 2009, BT signed a small contract with indie label Special Ed Records/Audio Skyline Productions and gratefully welcomed former drummer Weston Waters back into the band to play guitar and sing backing vocals, with Britt stepping away from vocalist/guitarist, assuming position of frontman. However in mid 2009, BT parted ways with drummer Stricker due to personal conflicts and welcomeed in drummer Eric Dombrosky & and a second guitarist, Rob Mahoney, making them a complete five piece for the first time ever since the band began. After sometime, Mahoney decided to leave the band, pursuing different musical interests. Dillion Tuttle from Another Life Spared was welcomed in as the replacement. 2011 saw the band continuing the writing process on new material and BT teamed up with Joey Danger Productions to take their music to the next level. Soon after recording began, BT would face yet another line up change with Dombrosky leaving for personal reasons and Tuttle back full time with Another Life Spared, with Kevin Ruffo from Another Life Spared and former bassist Thomas Guthrie would quickly be welcomed in to the BT family to fill drummer and rythum guitarist postitions and further the recording process.
A solid 5-piece once again, BT signs with KEG Management in late 2011, but as 2012 approached, BT parted ways with Ruffo. Current drummer Charles Latham would be welcomed in to help further a tour supporting the release of "Parasite EP". Now with all original members, Latham on drums to round it out and the support of KEG Management, BT is set with its strongest lineup to date to further push a strong 2012 with a current spring and summer tour in the works.
